Charleston, W.Va. — Spilman Thomas & Battle (Spilman) announced that Joseph C. Unger was elected as Member of the law firm effective January 1, 2026.

Unger’s practice focuses on corporate, transactional, environmental, and energy law. He represents clients of all sizes in a broad range of corporate and commercial matters, including complex transactions. He also provides outside general counsel services, working closely with executive leadership teams to address day-to-day legal needs, strategic planning, and risk management.

In addition, Unger performs environmental due diligence relating to commercial transactions and advises clients on federal and state environmental laws, regulatory compliance, and rulemaking matters. He also serves as Director of Spilman’s Corporate Transparency Act Compliance Program and as the firm-wide point of contact for CTA compliance and reporting.

Unger began his legal career with Spilman as a Summer Associate and was offered a full-time position following law school.
