Winston-Salem, N.C. — Spilman Thomas & Battle (Spilman) announced that two attorneys recently joined the firm’s North Carolina office, further strengthening its labor and employment and litigation teams.

Nelson A. McKown joins the firm as Counsel. His practice focuses on traditional labor law matters and representing companies in employment-related litigation in state and federal court. He guides companies through union organizing campaigns, unfair labor practice charges, issues with collective bargaining negotiations, union avoidance, and supervisory training, and represents companies before the National Labor Relations Board.

McKown also defends employers and supervisors in a broad range of employment-related litigation including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, contract, and tort claims in various federal courts, state courts, arbitrations, and appellate tribunals.

Admitted to practice law in North Carolina and West Virginia, McKown earned his undergraduate degree from Washington & Jefferson College and his law degree from West Virginia University College of Law.

Rebecca M. Parsons joins the firm as an Associate, bringing significant courtroom experience to Spilman’s litigation team. Her practice focuses on litigation, supported by a strong foundation developed through years of trial work in the public sector.

Prior to joining Spilman, Parsons served as Assistant District Attorney in the Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office, where she managed busy District Court dockets and handled a substantial volume of cases. During her tenure, she tried more than 250 bench trials in District Court and multiple jury trials in Superior Court, gaining extensive courtroom and advocacy experience.

Parsons earned both her undergraduate and law degrees from Wake Forest University. While in law school, she also served as a graduate teaching assistant. She is admitted to practice law in North Carolina.
