Immediate Past WV DEP General Counsel Jason Wandling Joins Spilman

Charleston, W.Va. — Spilman Thomas & Battle (Spilman) announced that Jason E. Wandling, immediate past General Counsel for the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), has joined the law firm as partner.
Wandling brings significant experience in energy law, environmental law, government relations, and business expansion and development. His deep understanding of regulatory and legislative frameworks enhances Spilman’s already robust capabilities in these areas.
“I'm so happy to join the Spilman team,” Wandling said. “Over the years, I’ve worked alongside many of my new colleagues and have long admired their knowledge, integrity, and professionalism. I look forward to collaborating more closely with them as we help clients navigate today’s complex regulatory and legal environment.”
In his new role, Wandling advises clients on a broad range of issues related to air, water, and solid waste permitting, and he represents their interests before state and federal agencies, the West Virginia Legislature, and the courts.
“Our team has come to know and respect Jason through our work with the DEP, and we are delighted to welcome him to the firm,” said Michael J. Basile, Spilman’s Managing Member. “He brings not only a wealth of legal knowledge and government insight, but also a practical and proactive approach that our clients value deeply.”
Basile added, “With Jason’s addition, Spilman further strengthens its reputation for excellence in environmental and energy law. His leadership and experience position us to further enhance our guidance to our clients across the region.”
