Chapman Joins Spilman, Strengthens Litigation and Healthcare Teams

January 29, 2026

Huntington, W.Va. — Spilman Thomas & Battle (Spilman) announced that Sara E. Chapman has joined the law firm’s Huntington office, further strengthening its litigation and healthcare practices.

Chapman brings extensive experience in complex civil litigation, regulatory compliance, and healthcare law. Most recently, she served as Assistant General Counsel at UK King’s Daughters Medical Center, where she advised leadership on legal risk management, regulatory matters, and operational compliance.

“Sara’s experience serving as in-house counsel within a major hospital system gives her a unique and valuable perspective,” said Robert M. Sellards, Member in Charge of Spilman’s Huntington office. “She understands firsthand the challenges healthcare providers face every day, so she brings practical insight to every matter. Her addition reflects Spilman’s continued commitment to building one of the strongest healthcare and litigation teams in the region.”

In her new role, Chapman will represent clients in complex civil and commercial litigation, with a particular focus on defending healthcare providers and businesses in medical negligence and product liability matters. She also will advise clients on regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and business strategies with the goal of preventing disputes before they arise.

“I am honored to join Spilman and be part of a firm with such a strong reputation for excellence and client service,” Chapman said. “I look forward to working alongside this talented team to help clients navigate complex legal and business challenges confidently.”

In addition, Chapman also has experience advising clients on privacy and data security matters, the legal implications of artificial intelligence, intellectual property protection, and a wide range of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiation, and strategic business planning.

Chapman is admitted to practice law in West Virginia and Kentucky. She earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees from Marshall University, and her law degree from Mitchell Hamline School of Law.
