Mr. Leight’s primary area of practice focused on litigation, with an emphasis on white collar defense, product liability, toxic tort, environmental, commercial litigation and business litigation.

  • Representative Criminal Matters
    • Representing a corporation criminally charged with violating the Clean Water Act for discharge of a pollutant into the Elk River in Charleston, West Virginia
    • Representing a high-ranking police official charged by the FBI with diverting funds for his personal use
    • Defending an attorney charged with fraud and conflict of interest, resulting in a not-guilty verdict following a two-week trial
    • Representing a government contractor charged with fraud in the performance of a government contract
    • Representing an elected judge charged by the FBI with bribery
    • Representing a business owner and attorney charged with tax evasion
    • Representing a large multi-state contractor investigated for allegedly improperly applying for a minority set-aside program, with a result of no charges being brought against the company
    • Representing a union official investigated by the government for misuse of funds
    • Representing a wide range of clients charged with violating myriad federal and state tax laws including mail fraud, bank fraud, procurement and health care fraud

    • Defending a securities broker following a nine-day hearing at a FINRA arbitration proceeding in New York City
    • Representing a City of Pittsburgh police officer in two federal civil rights trials, resulting in a very favorable decision
    • Representing large corporate entities in connection with toxic tort matters in Pennsylvania and West Virginia
    • Representing physicians and nurses in actions brought by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that could have resulted in loss of license, privileges or credentials
    • Defending trucking companies and drivers involved in major accidents that caused catastrophic injuries and damages
    • Defending bars, taverns and restaurants against allegations of dram shop violations
    • Successfully defending a corporation in an OSHA hearing related to allegations of unsafe work practices
    • Defending a nonprofit sued over allegations of overbilling under the civil False Claims Act
    • Representing clients in noncompete litigation involving corporate officers
    • Representing clients in a trial involving a shareholder dispute over compensation, which resulted in a substantial award for the client and reported decision by Pennsylvania Superior Court
