IRS Waives Half Million in Penalties for Multi-State Federal Credit UnionSpilman recently represented a multi-state federal credit union in a federal tax matter. The IRS had assessed penalties in excess of a half million dollars for failure to properly file information returns. Spilman attorneys requested an abatement, which initially was denied. The Spilman team appealed the assessment and abatement denial. After months of discussions with the government, the IRS agreed with the position of our client and waived all of the penalties, resulting in the client not owing any penalties or interest to the IRS.
