Team Spilman Fights N.C. Hunger

April 24, 2013

24-person Office Donates Equivalent of 3,170 Meals

Winston-Salem, N.C. – The 2013 North Carolina Legal Feeding Frenzy food drive collected more than 180,000 pounds of food, or the equivalent of 150,000 meals, for the state’s food-insecure residents. Lawyers, law departments, judges and law schools across North Carolina donated generously to the effort, which concluded earlier this month.

The Winston-Salem office of Spilman Thomas & Battle, PLLC (Spilman) is pleased to have contributed to this massive effort to fight hunger. The 24-person Spilman team donated more than 3,800 pounds of food, or the equivalent of approximately 3,170 meals.

“I think I speak for all of the participating firms when I say that it was great to be part of something that will have such a direct and meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families in need in our area,” said Bryan G. Scott, member at Spilman and Winston-Salem co-chair for the Legal Feeding Frenzy.

The Spilman team had the highest per-person contribution, donating 158.5 pounds of food per office member, in the Triad area. The group also had the third highest per-person contribution in the entire state.

The charitable effort was organized and led by the North Carolina Bar Association Young Lawyer’s Division, the North Carolina Association of Food Banks and Attorney General Roy Cooper.
