Spilman Thomas & Battle Brings Region’s Business Leaders Together in Charleston for Regional SuperVision™

June 23, 2011

Charleston, W.Va. — The region’s leading human resources and employment law practitioners convened today in record numbers at Embassy Suites Hotel to engage in discussions and share ideas in a progressive, peer-learning event known as SuperVision™. The popular event series, now in its fourth year, is the brainchild of Spilman Thomas & Battle, PLLC, a regional law firm whose labor & employment law practice has been nationally recognized for its excellence.

More than 150 business leaders attended SuperVision. The group included business owners, CEOs, HR managers, general counsels and top managers from companies in West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. All came with two primary goals—first, to learn in a unique format how to maximize corporate investment in human capital; and secondly, to hear the latest trends and key insights regarding the future of the practice of corporate law from keynote speaker Tom Sager of DuPont.

A highlight of this year’s Regional SuperVision™ was keynote speaker Thomas L. Sager, senior vice president and general counsel with E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company. Sager is considered to be a global thought leader on the practice of law, and he spoke on “The New Reality” of the legal landscape.

"The new reality came with the recession," Sager said. "In the wake of those dynamics, we find ourselves now much like other professions in that our profession is viewed through the lens of the cost of delivering service. Results remain important but costs are also an important aspect of your practice."

Ever-changing federal and state regulatory codes and statutes, as well as advancements in technologies such as social media, present challenges for all business professionals who manage employees. SuperVision™ is designed to help participants stay abreast of the latest and most important topics related to such matters.

“We crafted SuperVision as a fresh alternative to the typical HR law seminar,” explained Eric W. Iskra, chair of Spilman’s labor and employment group. “We believe attendees learn so much more in our SuperVision format by engaging with each other and sharing ideas.”
