Spilman Pittsburgh Gains National Bankruptcy Practice & Adds to Corporate/Private Equity Talent

April 28, 2014

Pittsburgh —Spilman Thomas & Battle, PLLC (Spilman) announced that attorneys James A. Baldwin and Sally E. Edison, along with paralegal T.C. Collins, joined the law firm’s Pittsburgh office.

Baldwin’s practice is in mergers and acquisitions, with an emphasis on leveraged buyouts, private equity (including EB-5 investments), project finance and venture capital deals. Baldwin also counsels financial institutions and borrowers in finance transactions. As part of his responsibilities, Baldwin also serves as General Counsel and Vice President of Finance for Rockland Technimed Ltd, a medical diagnostic imaging company. He joined the firm after practicing with Patton Boggs in Washington, D.C. and Fox Rothschild in Pittsburgh. Baldwin is a graduate of Georgetown University’s Law Center.

Edison, formerly with McGuireWoods, practices law in the areas of commercial bankruptcy, insolvency, and creditors' rights. Her clients primarily include national trade creditors and major corporations. Sally’s decades of experience, along with her commitment to the community and dedication to the advancement of diversity in the legal profession, have made her a sought-after speaker and garnered her significant state and national recognition for her professional excellence and leadership. Among other honors, Sally has been named on the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers and Pennsylvania Super Lawyers “Rising Stars” lists; included among Pittsburgh’s “40 under 40” by Pittsburgh Magazine; and selected by the National Diversity Council as one of the “2012 Most Powerful and Influential Women in Pennsylvania.” She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Law.

T.C. Collins, also formerly with McGuireWoods, is a paralegal with 20 years of experience in restructuring and insolvency matters. Prior to moving to Pittsburgh in 1994, Collins worked with Schnader Harrison in Philadelphia, Pa.

“Since the beginning of the year, the Pittsburgh office of Spilman has grown by over 40 percent,” said Ron Schuler, Managing Member of the Pittsburgh office. “These hires significantly add to our corporate and business law capabilities.”

“Sally and James also represent exactly the kinds of legal professionals we are looking to add to our team: bright, self-motivated lawyers with significant experience in AMLAW 100/200 firms who have built strong practices, and who are looking for a more supportive, entrepreneurial environment within which to continue to grow them,” he continued. “Our intention is to continue to increase our presence in Pittsburgh with these kinds of additions.”
