Practice Group Roster

In recent years, West Virginia has successfully attracted international investment. This new investment is fueling economic growth and diversifying the state’s economic base at a rapid pace. With trade offices in Japan, Taiwan and Germany, the International Division of the West Virginia Development Office is facilitating this interest with a portfolio of economic development incentives. But knowledge of and access to these incentive programs is key to taking advantage of the opportunities that each provides.

Our firm has successfully assisted international clients in obtaining and implementing West Virginia’s various incentive programs for international economic development, including:

  • Foreign Trade Zones
  • Low interest loan programs
  • Tax credits for investment or job creation
  • Property tax reductions for manufacturing property
  • Pre-employment assessment services
  • Employee recruiting
  • Work force training
In addition, we have facilitated the application of these programs on behalf of a wide array of international businesses.

Beyond introduction to program assistance, our attorneys frequently act as emissaries between government and international business entities by:

  • Facilitating translation, communication and travel arrangements
  • Negotiating international development details with state and local governmental entities
  • Facilitating the establishment of Foreign Trade Zones
  • Assisting international clients in obtaining permits, certificates and other types of authority
  • Negotiating citations, fines and penalties and providing comments on proposed regulations
  • Cross-marketing our client base and introducing those in need of solutions to those that can provide solutions
  • Forming industry think-tanks such as West Virginia Steel Futures, Inc. and Polymer Alliance Zone, Inc. (These nonprofit entities have been established by the firm to promote the progression of the steel and polymer industries in West Virginia.)
Our reputation and experience in the area of international economic development allow us to help our clients reach their business goals.
