Spilman Attorney Named W.Va. Bar Foundation Fellow
Wheeling, W.Va. — The law firm Spilman Thomas & Battle announced today that Sharon L. Potter, counsel in its Wheeling office, was named a West Virginia Bar Foundation Fellow. She joins fewer than 300 other Fellows previously selected from more than 5,000 eligible lawyers and judges in the state.
The Foundation bases its selection of Fellows on attorneys’ dedication to the welfare of their communities and honorable service to the legal profession in West Virginia. Fewer than 20 lawyers were selected as Fellows this year.
Serving as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of W.Va. from 2006 to 2009, Potter was the district’s chief federal law enforcement official. She also has worked closely with Three Rivers Drug Task Force in Fairmont, W.Va., prosecuting federal drug trafficking crimes. Potter previously received the Department of Justice Director’s Award for Superior Performance following her prosecution of a nationwide securities fraud/money laundering case that involved approximately 15,000 victims and netted more than $2.3 million in forfeitures.
