Experience

  • Negotiating, preparing and interpreting coal, oil and gas purchase/sale agreements, leases, easements, licenses, rights-of-way, surface damage agreements and other natural resource land use agreements
  • Serving as counsel for the acquisition and development of two major shopping centers in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia
  • Performing coal, oil and gas title examinations and preparing corresponding title opinions to assist a wide variety of clients in acquiring desired property rights, including large-scale title examination projects for mineral companies
  • Representing the purchaser in the largest recent auto dealership acquisition in West Virginia
  • Representing various clients in timber transactions that have included a total of approximately 1 million acres
  • Serving as counsel on the three-year development and sale of an independent operator’s oil and gas development project located in Wetzel County, West Virginia, which was comprised of six horizontal well units and a pipeline gathering system
  • Serving as counsel on an ongoing coalbed methane development project
  • Working on numerous general commercial transactions, financings and contracts, including the development and financing of two wind-powered electric generation facilities
  • Serving as in-house counsel for two days a week at a publicly traded oil and gas company for approximately one year to work on various legal issues related to natural gas production, transportation and storage
  • Working on numerous pre-litigation and litigation cases related to contracts and real estate law
  • Representing clients in commercial and mineral real estate transactions, including an acquisition of approximately 130,000 mineral acres
  • Agent for First American Title Insurance Company and Old Republic National Title Insurance Company
