Roanoke

Spilman Thomas & Battle, PLLC is growing!  We are currently seeking experienced attorneys in the following areas to join our Roanoke, Virginia office.

Local Government Attorney.  Our local government team represents a number of cities, counties, towns, and public service authorities, among other public entities.  Our practice extends across a wide array of issues common to local governments, such as economic development, capital projects and public finance, construction, complex civil litigation, employment law, real estate, land use and zoning, code enforcement, school law, drafting ordinances and resolutions, government procurement and contracts, and freedom of information act and conflict of interests act compliance.

The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years’ experience, either in-house or in private practice, in one or more of the foregoing disciplines. Experience working with public bodies and local government administrators is preferred.

General Litigation Attorney.  The position involves a diverse practice including business litigation, bankruptcy and creditors rights, estate litigation, employment law, family law, and local government.  The ideal candidate will have 2 to 5 years’ general litigation experience, including drafting responsive pleadings, handling all aspects of the discovery process, drafting motions (including motions for summary judgment), depositions, and court appearances as well as experience with local, state, and federal agencies.

Qualified candidates must have a strong academic record and work ethic, ability to work well in a team environment, superior judgment, excellent research and writing skills, and the ability to effectively handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Candidate must be licensed in Virginia.
