King, Mary Kathryn (Katie)


Ms. King is a member of The Battle Group, Spilman’s litigation group that focuses on high-risk, complex litigation cases, and Spilman's Energy, Construction and Utility Law groups. Ms. King is a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., and returned to Winston-Salem in August 2011 after practicing securities and consumer class action litigation in Atlanta, Ga. for six years. Ms. King has developed a deep understanding of e-discovery issues and co-chairs the North Carolina office's e-discovery group. In addition, Ms. King is expanding the firm's footprint throughout the state of North Carolina in the areas of energy, construction, public utility and natural resources law.

  • Represents contractors, owners and design professionals in litigation concerning contract disputes, patent infringement, and unfair and deceptive trade practices
  • Represents contractors, owners, and warranty companies in litigation involving construction delays, cost overruns, and defect claims
  • Represents clients in litigation involving water contamination and mass chemical exposure
  • Represents clients in complex products liability actions
  • Represents clients in environmental litigation matters in state and federal court
  • Represents clients before state public service/utility commissions in electric utility rate cases
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in all areas of e-discovery
  • Active in all phases of class action certification, review, and litigation
  • Experience in handling depositions of individual defendants, corporate representatives, third parties, experts and class representatives
  • Experience in conducting extensive legal research and drafting pleadings at all stages of litigation
